When winter whispers of icy death
And  gelid winds speak in silence,
Lesser men, aye, they sit upon thrones
Ruling the seven kingdoms whence,

They donot know of life in the snow
These opulent men of the south,
For they can kill without a blade
Through the practiced art of mouth,

But we remain blind to their wars,
Their schemes and sinister ploys,
Those who can see, look to the north
Where men are made of boys,

By the Wall we hold our fort,
On the Wall we spend our nights,
For the Wall is but the last bulwark
That preserves the southern lights,

We come not from regal houses,
Our sigils are blood and blade,
Of bastards and paupers and petty thieves,
Men of honor are made,

Our rangers explore the veiled wilds beyond,
Our stewards serve bread and mead,
Our builders let not the Wall to fall,
Under the Lord Commander's lead

We vow to abstain from wedlock,
Nor shall we implant our seeds,
Nor hold vast lands or titles,
We live with staid needs,

We are the Night's Watch
And another night we brave the numb,
A sword in the darkness
For all the nights to come.
"Hear my words and bear witness to my vow. Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come." ~ Night's Watch Oath (Game of Thrones)

The pride really resonates through this piece. There are some places it breaks with rhythm, but otherwise I'd say perfect. I also like the language you used; very appropriate for the subject and setting of the poem. Most of all, though, I suppose I really liked what was behind it-- I mentioned the pride ringing through it and it has that noble pauper risen feeling behind it that those of us with a low SES can't help but adore. It's beautiful; do keep writing.

Thank you! I expected you to point that out, because pride is a very quintessential theme to the poem. The Night's Watch consists of men who have risen above the common way of life and have embraced selfless service...thus the pride resonates through their voices in this poem!

I may end up reading the books just to see this Night's Watch... Thank you again for the lovely poem, and another book for my summer reading list. ^^

Or you can watch the show! =D Game of Throne is so EPIC! But yeah, some beauty is always lost in filming a great book, so you might as well read. I have to read Wuthering Heights through this summer O_o
